FDA Raids Compounding Center Facilities, Investigates More Drugs
FDA investigators and local police Tuesday raided the Framingham, Mass., facilities of the compounding pharmacy whose steroid injections are linked to a recent fungal meningitis outbreak. The agencies did not provide details on what the investigators uncovered. The FDA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Massachusetts public health authorities began looking into the compounding pharmacy after reports of fungal infections from steroid injections that were used to relieve joint pain. According to the CDC, the investigation now encompasses 19 people who have died and 247 who report being infected.
