Neurosurgical devicemaker Nico has partnered with surgical ultrasound provider Hitachi Aloka Medical America to develop improved imaging for difficult to access brain tumors using the NICO BrainPath.
Hitachi Aloka is developing an ultrasound probe specifically for use with the BrainPath to help surgeons locate tumors beyond their direct vision.
BrainPath has been used in over 2,500 procedures at more than 60 institutions throughout the U.S., according to Indianapolis, Ind.-based NICO.
The collaboration comes one month after NICO received FDA clearance for the BrainPath for use accessing brain tumors, cysts and vascular disease. — Michael Cipriano
