House Democrats Unveil Bill to Cut Exclusivity for Innovator Biologics
House Democrats took aim at the biopharmaceutical industry last week, introducing a bill that would cut patent exclusivity for innovators nearly in half.
The bill — sponsored by Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-Ill.) — would amend the Public Health Service Act to shorten exclusivity for brand name biologics from 12 years to 7 years.
BIO slammed the bill in a statement, describing it as a means to “undermining investment in the next biomedical breakthroughs for patients.”
