WHO Estimates $20M in Fees for Prequalification Program

The World Health Organization is implementing a new fee structure for its prequalification program, which assesses the quality, safety and efficacy of medical products and devices for sale through the United Nations and international supply systems.

The new fee structure differentiates prices by product type, public health relevance and market, WHO said. It’s intended to cover manufacturing site inspections, product assessments, training and consultations with drugmakers.

With the introduction of the new fee structure, WHO will begin to setting performance goals to promote review transparency and efficiency.
