St. Jude Medical to Acquire EP MedSystems

St. Jude Medical has agreed to acquire EP MedSystems, an electrophysiology company, for approximately $92.1 million. The companies expect the acquisition to close during the third quarter of 2008.

The transaction will add two new growth drivers to St. Jude’s programs for atrial fibrillation and other electrophysiology (EP) catheterization procedures, St. Jude said.

This includes the EP-WorkMate computerized electrophysiology. The EP-WorkMate platform has a No. 2 share of the global market for EP recording systems despite limited sales and marketing resources, it added.
