ConMed’s Suture Anchor Gets FDA Clearance for Arthroscopic Hip Repair

August 14, 2008

The FDA granted 510(k) clearance to ConMed Linvatec for its Bio Mini-Revo suture anchor for use in repairing the labrum of the hip joint.

The product is a bioabsorbable, 3.1 mm-diameter, screw-in anchor manufactured from self-reinforced 96L/4D poly lactic acid. This material provides a balance of strength during the postsurgery healing period with enhanced resorption over time, eliminating the need for a second surgery to remove the implant, ConMed said.

The labrum is a form of cartilage that lines the rim of the socket of the hip. In an arthroscopic technique, surgeons use suture anchors to reattach the torn cartilage to the rim of the socket to relieve pain and regain normal hip function.
