Canada Wants More Research on Use of FDG-PET

September 23, 2008
More clinical studies are needed to support the use of fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) in the detection and evaluation of infections, the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health concludes in a recent report. The report compares the safety, performance, cost-effectiveness and clinical impact of FDG-PET with other imaging methods, citing two meta-analyses and seven prospective observational diagnostic studies that demonstrated the clinical efficacy of the technology over other methods.
