University Study Calls for New Method of Stroke Diagnosis

October 29, 2008
A study conducted by a team of stroke experts from the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center demonstrates that CT perfusion imaging may dramatically improve stroke diagnosis. The study showed CT perfusion had 100 percent accuracy for detecting ischemic stroke. The method may allow for a diagnosis that takes less than half the time of MRI screening and may eliminate the need for thrombolytic drug therapy that may cause bleeding in the brain, the university says in a statement.
