FDA Safety Alert on Thermography Says Mammography Is Superior

Some companies are promoting thermography as a stand-alone tool for screening and diagnosing breast cancer, which could lead to a decrease in mammography use, an FDA safety alert says. The companies claim thermography is a substitute for, or is superior to, mammography and the FDA is concerned that women “will believe these misleading claims about thermography and not receive needed mammograms,” the agency says in the alert posted online Thursday.
