Getting supplier quality under control is crucial if devicemakers wish to avoid the risk of product liability and its accompanying financial hit, industry experts say. Several recent product liability cases have involved medical device companies that ended up paying for the mistakes of their suppliers — and even their suppliers’ suppliers — and most were settled because “companies don’t want to raise a red flag,” Sara Dyson, a loss control manager with insurer Medmarc, said at the recent FDAnews Supplier Quality Summit in Bethesda, Md.
