3-D Modeling, TPLC Approach Cut Time, Uncertainty in Device Design Cycle

October 10, 2012
Vision care company Bausch + Lomb found cataract lens development cycles significantly reduced after engineers started first examining the way lenses would work in the eye through 3-D computer modeling, a Bausch + Lomb official says. “The simulation-based design process is less expensive, faster and leads to the desired performance the first time” by ensuring lenses fit in the eye properly before clinical trials begin, principal engineer Gary Richardson said during an Oct. 1 discussion of the benefits of computer simulation in device development at AdvaMed’s 2012 annual meeting.
