The Pfizer Viagra Patent Goes Limp in Canada (Pharmalot Blog)
The Supreme Court of Canada decided unanimously that the patent on the Viagra erectile dysfunction pill is invalid in response to a challenge from Teva Pharmaceuticals, which argued that Pfizer failed to disclose sufficient information at the time the patent application was filed, blogger Ed Silverman writes. “This also raises the prospect that some Americans may attempt to purchase a lower-cost generic from Canada, despite admonitions from the FDA and drugmakers about safety concerns,” Silverman adds. The Canadian patent was due to expire in 2014, and the U.S. patent in 2020.
