Stryker and NeuroLogica Partner in Surgical Navigation and Imaging

January 7, 2014

Stryker and Samsung subsidiary NeuroLogica have entered into an exclusive partnership agreement whereby Stryker will promote and sell NeuroLogica’s BodyTom portable full-body CT scanner in conjunction with its own NAV3i surgical navigation platform in the U.S.

The devicemakers hope the combined technologies will offer a “turnkey surgical solution for customers seeking to acquire these innovative technologies.”

The BodyTom is the first-ever portable, 32-slice full-body CT scanner with 85 cm gantry and a 60 cm field of view. According to Stryker spokeswoman Yin Becker, it allows surgeons to use a preoperative image to create a 3D model of a patient’s spine that can be matched to the actual spine during surgery. The camera in the Nav3i navigation system then tracks the movement of the surgical instruments.

NeuroLogica’s BodyTom can be used across multiple areas of hospitals, including operating rooms, varied surgical specialties, trauma departments and clinics, and is compatible with picture archiving and communication systems, electronic medical records, surgical navigation and planning systems. — Lena Freund
