Zimmer Launches Puros DBM Block and Strip in the U.S.

February 4, 2014

Zimmer has launched its Puros Demineralized Bone Matrix Block and Strip bone graft substitutes in the U.S., the company said Monday.

The Puros DBM products, which consist of 100 percent demineralized cancellous bone and are flexible and compressible after rehydration, are used to stimulate natural bone formation during spinal surgery. They can be used alone or as a bone graft extender, Zimmer said.

The allografts provide osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties, improved handling and graft containment and are provided through a partnership with AlloSource, Zimmer noted. The device also comes in a variety of sizes and shapes to reduce transplant time.

“These new Puros DBM products minimize the need for shaping during the surgical procedure, are provided sterile, and have up to five-year shelf life,” said Zimmer CEO Steve Healy. “Adding these new DBMs to our biologics portfolio will provide surgeons with a competitive, off-the-shelf, and convenient allograft,” he said. — Lena Freund
