Medical Technology Veterans Program Renames, Expands

The Medical Technology Veterans Program and the Military Veterans Program have merged and been rechristened the MedTech and BioTech Veterans Program, expanding nationwide to life sciences hubs in Boston, San Diego, Texas, Ohio, New Jersey, Minneapolis, Chicago and elsewhere, spokesman Mike Grice told Device Daily Bulletin Wednesday.

MVP, as the program is known, pairs veterans with mentors who are either veterans themselves or industry professionals in areas ranging from sales and customer support to human resources, manufacturing and R&D and C-level executive positions. The project is a joint effort of AdvaMed and Massachusetts industry group MassMedic, among others.

Interested vets can access the program through its website, www.mvpvets.org, via online educational programs associated with industry-recognized certifications, regional events and free access to JobsFastPass — an online learning and collaboration community for jobseekers.

“This expansion and new partnership will enable us to reach more veterans and mentors from all over the country and provide quality training and mentorship for our service men and women who are looking to build a career in the life sciences and medical technology industries,” said Michael Minogue, CEO of Abiomed and MVP’s chairman.

MVP is open to all veterans. Program officials hope to reach 5,000 veterans by 2018. As of January, 198 veterans and 95 mentors had been through the program. — Lena Freund
