Ohio Groups Partner to Speed Biomedical Innovation

April 23, 2014

Austen BioInnovation Institute of Akron is teaming up with Cleveland’s Nottingham Spirk to hasten biomedical innovation in Ohio, the groups announced Monday. The strategic partnership will also aid domestic and international companies looking to market products in the U.S.

Interested manufacturers can approach either partner’s enterpreneurs, said ABIA spokesman Scott Rainone, adding that a couple of projects are already underway.

ABIA’s team will contribute medical device, regulatory and biomaterials experts to test products and help get them through the regulatory process. The institute also has a network of physicians and patients and testing facilities that will assist projects.

Nottingham Spirk will contribute design services such as ideation sessions, concept visualization, ergonomics studies and 3D modeling and animation. The company’s medtech design chops include HealthSpot’s remote telemedicine kiosk, ViewRay’s MRI-guided radiotherapy and Future Path Medical’s UroSense monitoring system, among others. — Lena Freund
