FDA OKs 532 nm Laser Delivery System for PicoSure

February 24, 2015

Westford, Mass., devicemaker Cynosure said Tuesday that the FDA has cleared its 532 nm laser delivery system for the PicoSure dermal repair technology. Initial shipments are expected to roll out in the second quarter of this year.

PicoSure is used to remove tattoos and benign pigmented lesions and to treat acne scars and wrinkles, according to the company.

The new 532 nm system “allows for more effective removal of red, orange and yellow tattoo ink, which can now be cleared in fewer treatments,” said Roy Geronemus, director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. Cynosure already markets a 755 nm laser delivery system.

The new system will be introduced at the American Academy of Dermatology’s annual meeting March 20-24 in San Francisco, Cynosure said. — Meg Bryant
