Life Spine Gets FDA OK for Screw System Additions

March 6, 2015

Spinal disorder devicemaker Life Spine said Thursday it has received 510(k) clearance for 40 implant additions to its Conquest, Avatar and Nautilus Thoracolumbar screw systems and the Solstice Occipito-Cervico-Thoracic System.

The clearance covers a variety of domino, in-line and wedding band rod-to-rod connectors, open and closed offsets, and unique U-shaped connectors that allow for a firm connection while skipping levels and/or mating with existing implants, the Huntley, Ill., firm said.

The additional rod connectors make revision surgery easier, safer and quicker for both the patient and surgeon, said Vittorio M. Morreale, medical director of neurosciences at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Michigan. This enables faster recovery time and reduces postoperative pain, he said. — Kellen Owings
