Boston Scientific Launches Captivator EMR Device

September 29, 2015

Boston Scientific has launched its Captivator endoscopic mucosal resection device, a minimally invasive alternative to esophagectomy.

The device is available in the U.S., Europe, Singapore, Australia and Puerto Rico.

The Captivator is designed for upper gastrointestinal EMR, enabling staging and removal of precancerous tissue and early esophageal cancer. It provides physicians with a 360 degree view of the diseased area when performing resections.

The Marlborough, Mass., devicemaker also has enrolled the first patient in a multicenter postmarket registry aimed at studying the Captivator’s use in removing abnormal tissue growth in Barrett’s Esophagus, a common precursor to cancer. Boston Scientific expects to enroll about 300 patients before the end of 2016. — Michael Cipriano
