St. Jude Completes Acquisition of Thoratec

October 9, 2015

St. Paul, Minn.-based St. Jude Medical has completed its $3.3 billion purchase of circulatory support systems manufacturer Thoratec.

The deal, first announced in July, gives St. Jude access to Thoratec’s line of HeartMate ventricular assist devices and percutaneous heart pumps, giving St. Jude a comprehensive portfolio of device to manage and treat heart disease, the company said.

St. Jude Chief Operating Officer and incoming President and CEO Michael Rousseau said the merger will “bring together two companies that are considered heart failure therapy leaders and build on our established franchise that is now uniquely positioned to offer physicians and patients innovative solutions across the heart failure continuum.” — Michael Cipriano
