Helius Medical Technologies’ PoNS Study Meets Objectives

November 3, 2015

Helius Medical Technologies announced that a study evaluating its Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator in patients with multiple sclerosis has met all of its objectives.

PoNS is a noninvasive means for delivering neurostimulation through the tongue. Fourteen patients were treated with the technology and concomitant physiotherapy.

According to the company, those treated by the device performed better on the sensory organization test than those in the control group. In addition, there was a strong safety profile for the device.

The therapy is being studied in the U.S. for the treatment of balance disorder for subjects with mild to moderate traumatic brain injury and in Canada for the treatment of gait and balance disorder for MS patients. — Michael Cipriano
