FDA Clears Summit’s Jaw Fracture Recovery Device for Marketing

June 26, 2017

Summit Medical’s non-invasive jaw fracture recovery device secured FDA clearance for widespread marketing.

The device uses a system of sutures between the teeth to fix the jaw in place evenly for the recover process. The use of sutures is more efficient and comfortable than more common wire-based devices, which can pose a safety threat to patients and surgeons.

The device could also potentially be applied in clinical settings rather than operating rooms, reducing costs and delays. Summit Medical licensed use of such technology for further development in 2014 through the University of Minnesota’s Office for Technology Commercialization.
