PhRMA to Promote Low-Cost Medicines Through National Coalition

April 12, 2005

A national coalition led by PhRMA will spend roughly $30 million through June to develop and promote a program that would help low-income Americans gain access to the medicines they need.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance establishes a website and call centers to match consumers with the drug assistance programs that best suits their needs. The group consists of a wide variety of participants, including drug manufacturers, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare providers.

Approximately $10 million of the initial investment in the coalition is coming from drugmakers, according to PhRMA. Those dollars will be used to fund television and newspaper ads touting the assistance program, the group said.
