FDA Names Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General As Chief Counsel

April 12, 2005

The FDA has appointed former Justice Department official Sheldon Bradshaw as its chief counsel, effective April 1.

Bradshaw, formerly the principal deputy assistant attorney general in Justice's civil rights division, is the permanent replacement for former FDA chief counsel Daniel Troy, who left the agency for the private sector in November 2004. Deputy Chief Counsel Gerald Masoudi had been serving as acting chief counsel since Troy's departure.

Prior to working in Justice's civil rights division, Bradshaw served as a deputy assistant attorney general in the department's office of legal counsel. Before joining Justice, Bradshaw practiced law in the Washington, D.C., office of Howrey Simon Arnold and, prior to that, as a law clerk to Judge Karen Williams in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
