Beximco Expands Presence in Africa

April 3, 2007

Beximco Pharmaceuticals announced it has begun supplying generic drugs to Ghana. Last month the company announced it would begin exporting drugs to Botswana.

Beximco has begun sending five products to Ghana: Arixon (ceftriaxone) 1-gram intravenous (IV) injection, Arixon 500-mg IV injection, Atrizin (cetrizine) tablets, Neofloxin (ciprofloxacin) 500-mg tablets and Spanil (hyoscine butyl bromide) tablets.

These products will be distributed and marketed by a pharmaceutical distributor in Ghana and are expected to be followed by several other drugs in the near future.

"Africa has the potential to be an important growth driver in the global generic pharmaceutical market," Nazmul Hassan, CEO of Beximco, said. "Beximco now exports pharmaceuticals to Kenya and Somalia in Eastern Africa, Mozambique in Southeast Africa and Botswana in South-Central Africa."

Beximco, based in Bangladesh, manufactures and sells generic pharmaceutical products and active pharmaceutical ingredients. The company also manufactures and markets its own branded generics for almost all disease indications.
