Natco Launches Multiple Sclerosis Drug in India

May 17, 2007

Indian drugmaker Natco Pharma announced it has launched a Glatimer, a generic multiple sclerosis drug.

The company said it is the first to launch a generic version of glatiramer acetate. The brand drug, Copaxone, has global sales of approximately $1.8 billion annually, Natco said.

The company estimates that 50,000 people have multiple sclerosis in India. Natco’s product will cost less than half of the price of Copaxone.

Specifically, glatiramer acetate is indicated for reduction of the frequency of relapses in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
