Medtronic, BD Diabetes Research Get Boost From Health Nonprofits
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Helmsley Charitable Trust have pledged millions of dollars toward research by Medtronic and Becton Dickinson (BD) on improved glucose monitoring technology, in an effort to bring artificial pancreases to market faster. Continuous glucose monitoring systems, which are a key component in artificial pancreases, combine an insulin pump with a continuous glucose monitor. Working in tandem, the devices take over for failed endocrine systems of people with Type 1 diabetes, monitoring blood sugar and insulin levels.
