FDA Clears Interrad Catheter with Subcutaneous Securement System
Interrad Medical has received 510(k) clearance for its SecureAcath PICC, a catheter with a subcutaneous securement system. The device uses a small anchor to position itself in the tissue just beneath the skin to hold an indwelling catheter securely in place. Advantages of the system include catheter securement, fewer catheter-related infections and the elimination of needle stick injuries. The company says in a statement that it is developing a stand-alone SecureAcath device that can be used with any indwelling catheter.
