House Oversight Chair Joins FDA Email Monitoring Probe
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is expanding a congressional probe into reports the FDA monitored personal emails of employees who voiced device safety concerns to Congress, adding to GOP concerns that the agency used the information it gleaned to retaliate against nine CDRH staffers. Such actions can only be justified in cases where an employee is “reasonably suspected of serious wrongdoing,” Issa, the powerful chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said in a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. “In this case, the employees monitored by FDA managers had done nothing wrong.”
