During a twitter chat, Pharmalot blogger Ed Silverman asked about the whereabouts of the pharma employees who have made bad decisions, referencing GlaxoSmithKline’s recent fine for illegal marketing of Paxil (paroxetine). “The unfortunate answer is that they are probably still in the industry working for another big pharma company or agency,” fellow blogger Rich Meyer writes. The industry’s dirty little secret is too many poisonous people move from pharma company to pharma company while those with morals and ideas are “shown the exit,” he writes. “Senior executives of pharma and biotech companies need to stop hiring people from other pharma companies without first doing a thorough, and I mean thorough, background check,” Meyer adds.
