CMS Remains Vague on Sunshine Rule Timing as Senators Turn Up Heat
Despite pressure from senators at a roundtable on the implementation of the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, a representative from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) simply said the agency hopes the rule will be released soon and that manufacturers’ data collection will begin in 2013. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) chided CMS for its failure to meet the timelines under the 2010 Affordable Care Act and questioned whether rumors were true that CMS has completed its final rule and sent it to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), but OMB will not issue final regulation until after the election.
