The European Commission is seeking the go-ahead from member states on a free trade agreement that would promote access to European medical devices in Japan. The agreement also would encourage regulatory convergence to remove technical barriers that delay devices reaching the Japanese market. According to Eucomed, devices often wait five years to enter the Japanese market after becoming available in the EU.
