Generic drugs have surged — a near 20 point increase among all written prescriptions — now accounting for 80 percent of all written prescriptions, according to the 2012 Rodale DTC Study. Some key findings in the study show consumers are actively seeking to reduce medical costs and are open to switching to generics once available.
