Medtronic is voluntarily recalling a limited number of LIFEPAK 500 automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Candela has received clearance from the FDA to market its next generation Ellipse I2PL system for skin rejuvenation of vascular and pigmented abnormalities. Medical device manufacturer Suros Surgical Systems, maker of the ATEC breast biopsy and excision system, has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, claiming patent infringement against California-based SenoRx. Ra Medical Systems announced that the California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, rejected PhotoMedex's appeal of a lower court ruling in a breach of contract case that Ra Medical and its founder, Dean Irwin, won early last year. CTI Molecular Imaging, a provider of positron emission
tomography (PET) equipment, molecular probes and services, announced that the
U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee recently issued an
order granting summary judgment in favor of the company and CTI PET Systems
(which does business as CPS Innovations) as defendants in a patent infringement
case brought by the Board of Regents, The University of Texas System and M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center v. CTI Molecular Imaging, CTI and CTI PET Systems. A Seattle company developing an implant to track and treat cancerous tumors has landed $8.5 million in venture capital, part of a round of fund raising the company hopes will reach $34.9 million. SOLX, a Boston University Photonics Center Company that develops glaucoma treatment systems, has commenced commercial operations after conducting four years of research and product development in the Photonics Center's Business Acceleration Program. SOLX's DeepLight Glaucoma Treatment System, which combines its Titanium Sapphire Laser and Gold Shunt, provides physicians a new approach to decreasing intraocular pressure, the primary risk factor for glaucoma. Applied Biosystems, an Applera Corporation, together with its partner MDS Sciex, a division of MDS and BIOCRATES life sciences, a bio-knowledge provider and developer of application systems and consumables for life sciences applications, announced a new collaborative agreement whereby the companies plan to develop metabolomics methods, instruments and applications. TriPath Imaging said it has won an exclusive five-year contract to supply its SurePath liquid-based pap test to the Cumbria and Lancashire Strategic Health Authority in the UK. Axsun Technologies has launched a groundbreaking new platform of tunable-laser-based products to enable continuous quality monitoring in process applications at PITTCON 2005. A pair of glasses which use virtual imagery could help people with Parkinson's disease cope with walking problems, scientists say. The device uses light to project images in front of the user, helping them to focus and control their movement. Gyrx LLC has released to the U.S. market a medical device used in gall bladder surgery. Scientists have developed a synthetic tooth enamel that they suggest could end the need for small fillings. |
