FDA Recommends New Safety Precautions for Hand-Held X-Ray Devices
Manufacturers of hand-held X-ray devices should provide adequate safety procedures tailored to the unique features of the equipment, a new FDA guidance says. Since this technology requires the operator to be closer to the device and the patient, manufacturers should consider how backscatter radiation from the patient and leakage radiation transmitted through the equipment increase the operator’s potential X-ray exposure.
