Lawmakers Reintroduce Bill on Industry-Physician Gifts
A bill to shed some sunlight on industry-physician financial relationships by requiring device- and drugmakers to publicly report payments to physicians of more than $100 annually was reintroduced in the 111th Congress last week. The Physician Payments Sunshine Act, presented by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), would establish a nationwide standard for reporting payments and posting them online — all of which would be regulated by HHS.
