FDA’s Overseas Offices Lack Device Experts
While the FDA is beefing up its presence in other countries, many of its new overseas offices lack device facility inspection experts. The agency and the State Department are discussing locations for an FDA office in the Middle East, which is scheduled to open before Oct. 1, Murray Lumpkin, deputy commissioner for international programs, said at the 14th Annual GMP by the Sea conference last week. The Mexico City office should be staffed by Nov. 1. Like several of the other foreign FDA offices, these will not have device experts.
