Governors, Senators Take Aim at Proposed Tax on Devices
Bowing to pressure from Democrats and Republicans, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) has removed Class II devices sold at retail for less than $100 from the formula used to determine a manufacturer’s market share of the $4 billion device tax called for in his America’s Healthy Future Act. Several senators want the fee removed as do governors from California, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada and Utah, who sent a letter to Baucus, requesting that he strike the fee from the bill.
