Report: Generic Drug Availability Doesn’t Increase Drugs Dispensed
When generic drugs become available
as brand drug patents expire, the total number of drugs dispensed doesn’t change because the increase in use
generated by the availability of less expensive drugs is offset by a reduction in use tied to a dropoff in brand marketing, a report finds. Marketing expands
the number of doctors prescribing brand drugs, increasing the number of drugs sold, according to a report from the Center for Medical Progress.
