Senate Amendment Would Delay Tax, Exempt Smaller Devicemakers
An amendment to the Senate healthcare bill would delay implementation of
a $2 billion annual device tax until 2013 and exempt device companies with less than $100 million in annual sales from the tax. The amendment, introduced
by Sens. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), also would make the fee tax-deductible and implement it on a graduated scale. Device companies
with $100 million to $150 million in annual sales would be taxed on half their revenue while companies making more than $150 million would face the full
tax.
