Experts: Drug Industry May Support Move to Preserve Senate Healthcare Bill
Drug and biologics makers
might support a Democratic option to move the Senate’s healthcare overhaul legislation directly to the House floor for
a vote. The Senate’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, H.R. 3590, would
allow the industry to avoid a ban on pay-for-delay settlements and give it 12 years of exclusivity for innovator biologics. A House vote on the Senate
bill is one option among several that Democrats are considering after Republican Scott Brown won a special election for the Senate seat held by Sen. Ted
Kennedy (D-Mass.) until his death last year.
