APEC Working With AdvaMed to Create a Harmonized Device Code of Ethics
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum is creating a regionwide code of business ethics for devicemakers that is expected to harmonize standards in the 21 member countries and spur innovation. A lack of consistency, predictability and transparency in the laws and regulatory frameworks in the Asia-Pacific region make such a code necessary. Without a coherent regulatory system, devicemakers operating in the region face uneven enforcement and substantive fines, according to AdvaMed, a U.S.-based trade organization that is working with APEC to develop the code.
