Opioid Painkillers Pulled From Market Due to Heart Risks
Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals has agreed to withdraw the prescription opioid painkillers Darvon and Darvocet from the U.S. market after new clinical data showed the drugs increased the risk of potentially serious or fatal heart rhythm abnormalities. The drugs, which have already been withdrawn in the UK due to negligible effectiveness and a high overdose risk, will be removed from the U.S. market at the request of the FDA, the agency said in a conference call.
