Enforcement Efforts Prove Costly to Device and Drug Industries
The scope of the Justice Department’s stepped-up enforcement campaign against off-label marketing and other violations of the False Claims Act is coming into focus, with the agency saying it has recovered nearly $5 billion in taxpayer funds since January 2009. In addition to the recovered funds, Justice has collected more than $3 billion in fines and secured 25 criminal convictions in that time period, Assistant Attorney General Tony West said.
