UK Drug Trials to be Reviewed by Proposed Agency
To speed up the approval for drug trials in the UK, the Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) is recommending that the process be streamlined under a new independent agency. The proposed Health Research Agency would oversee a single system for ethical approval, specialist approvals and licenses for trials, AMS says in a new report requested by the government last year. Having one agency responsible for the approvals would ensure transparency, reduce delays, remove inefficiencies, establish a single point of contact and provide clarity on legislation interpretation.
