Transvaginal POP Surgery With Mesh Risky, No Extra Benefit: FDA

An updated FDA safety communication issued Wednesday asks physicians to think twice before using surgical mesh in pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgeries because the agency has found that transvaginal placement of surgical mesh in this indication may carry more risks than other surgical options — without any evidence of greater benefit such as improved quality of life.
