Congressional Probe: PhRMA Blocked Parts of Obama’s Health Reform Ideas
Pharma lobbyists managed to stave off price controls for Medicare Part D, and imports of cheaper drugs from Canada, in 2009 healthcare reform talks with White House officials, a congressional investigation finds. In exchange, industry trade group PhRMA agreed to support the healthcare reform plan, close the Part D doughnut hole, increase Medicaid rebates and implement a new health reform fee, according to the House Energy & Commerce Committee investigation into negotiations between PhRMA and the Obama Administration.
