Pharma Companies Could Use New Law to Expand Patent Protection
President Barack Obama has signed into law two international patent treaties that could help U.S. pharma companies expand into foreign markets and save money when filing in multiple countries. Co-authored by Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the law, called the Patent Law Treaties Implementation Act of 2012, allows U.S. companies to use a single filing for patent protection in all 45 countries that have signed onto the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning International Registration of Industrial Design.
