More Industry Consolidation Needed to Pay for Pharma Quality Upgrades

Drugmakers should work toward greater consolidation in the pharmaceutical industry and apply the savings generated by increased efficiency to improving manufacturing quality. While consolidation might “squeeze out the small guys,” it will deter poor performers that flout good manufacturing practices to cut costs, Hans Hogerzeil, former director of essential medicines and pharmaceutical policies at the World Health Organization, said Wednesday.
