FDA Requiring Color Changes to Opioid Painkiller Patches
The FDA wants the makers of Duragesic to use a long-lasting ink and an easily identifiable color to prevent accidental exposure to the opioid painkiller patch. The agency issued a drug safety notice Sept. 23 for Janssen Pharmaceuticals’ Duragesic (fentanyl transdermal system) patch, which contains high amounts of narcotic pain medicine and is dangerous if ingested by children, family pets and others, even after use.
